Vegans are freaks

Yes, vegans are often thought of as weird and unnatural, geeky or animal rights extremists. Truth is most of us are a little different from other people simply because we choose a lifestyle that doesn’t involve killing living things to the best of our ability. So in that respect most vegans are not ‘normal’, if ‘normailty’ means eating dead bodies. Most vegans are not odd freaks,...

Red, Vegan & Fairtrade Option

LA RIOJANA ECOLOGICA SHIRAZ FAIRTRADE – that’s the Norwegian name for this wine, produced by La Riojana, Famantina Valley, Argentina. Normally Argentinian Red wine would not be my first choice yet I am trying to keep an open mind about wine now I know what is in it! Things are leading me to believe that wine produced without fish stomachs and eggs taste much better! This wine is delightful. Smooth...

Quote of the Week

As long as people will shed the blood of innocent creatures there can be no peace, no liberty, no harmony between people. Slaughter and justice cannot dwell together. Isaac Bashevis Singer

Skin Rugs

I seem to be bombarded with offers for dead animals. In my post box yesterday was a special offer leaflet for a chain of stores called Jysk. You can see the lovely images of a cow skin (marketed as ‘real cow skin, available also in extra large) and on the same page was an offer for lamb skin rugs. The lamb skin rugs apparently ‘especially comfy for children’ – not the children of sheep...

This was the poster which greeted me as I arrived at my local service statiol. An image of beautiful nature, small farm buildings and giant hamburgers in the fields. Are you supposed to feel proud? Great, we murdered these animals and this is what we make! Here’s an idea if you are a meat eater reading this, instead of feeling proud, how about feeling uncomfortable that you are part of a killing process,...

Pet Food

This is lovely read from Wikipedia. Meat by-products are ground and cleaned slaughtered meat carcass parts such as necks, feet, undeveloped eggs, bones, heads, and intestines (and a small amount of feathers in the case of chicken meat). The terms meat by-products or animal by-products are often used in reference to the ingredients included in commercial pet foods.

Obama: A shift in attitude

What a great world to wake up in this morning! Watching the tv from my Norwegian home last night was so exciting. Listening to real peoples views and hearing the optimism in their voices. Barack Obama has just been elected as the 44th President of the United States and we are all part of this historic change. Life today seems more positive – and I am not an American. I am English and had to move away from...

Male Chicks

Egg producers suffocate or grind up alive 280 million male chicks a year. As male chicks are worthless (for egg-type hatcheries) they are collected when hatched and are put in plastic bags where they slowly suffocated to dead (as any other way of killing them takes to much work and by this costs to much). These dead bodies are sold to mink farms as feed for the minks. As the public is getting aware of this...

Quote of the Week

Nothing more strongly arouses our disgust than cannibalism, yet we make the same impression on Buddhists and vegetarians, for we feed on babies, though not our own. Robert Louis Stevenson
