Vegan friends!

logo

It is important as a vegan to know other vegans. You can feel lost in the world of meat eaters and sometimes it helps to feel supported. You can easily find others making a stand about living in peace with animals by searching for local vegetarian and vegan groups. You can also look for groups on the internet, even go through the groups on facebook by typing in ‘vegan’ and you will find lots of people who share your views.

Even if you just have a question or want to say hello. You don’t have to be an animal rights campaigner (although if you are a vegan your lifestyle does reflect that naturally!) to be a part of a caring community of people who are being a voice for those with none. If you are unsure where to start come and find me on facebook (Jill Forrest, picture of me doing yoga with my son). I have always said one person may feel like they cannot make a differecne but think of all those one persons together and it can make change possible.

I TOO AM LOOKING FOR PERSON(S) WHO LIVE NEAR ME THAT ARE VEGETARIAN OR VEGAN. I LIVE IN SOUTH GEORGIA AND WORK IN ATLANTA. MY PROBLEM IS THAT NONE OF MY FRIENDS HAVE THE SAME VIEWS AS I DO ABOUT ANIMALS. INCLUDING MY FAMILY. I FEEL ALONE SOMETIMES IN MY DECISON AND ALTHOUGH I STAND BY MY BELIEFS IT WOULD BE NICE TO BE WITH PEOPLE WHO FELT THE SAME. U COULD EXCHANGE INFO, RECIPES, CHECK OUT VEG RESTUARANTS, ETC..
I HAVE BEEN VEGETARIAN 2 YRS NOW AND AM TRYING TO MOVE TOWARDS A VEGAN LIFESTYLE. DISMISSING MEAT WAS EASY:) VEGAN IS QUITE A TRANSITION BUT I HOPE TO GET THERE EVENTUALLY.
I DOUBT U LIVE NEAR ME BUT I JUST WANTED TO LET U KNOW I FEEL THE SAME WAY AND ON A SEARCH AS WELL FOR ANIMAL FRIENDLY FOLKS!

  3. Where are you?
I am in NYC and NH.

    It’s hard being a vegan with all the ignorant, selfish people out there;

Has anyone noticed that you can give some people every fact there is, in disproving their preconceptions about veganism, yet they won’t even consider changing their attitudes. Some people are utterly closed-minded and incapable of thinking for themselves. Pathetic really.

  5. Thank you, very useful. I wasnt actually a big fan of Spinach for many years (ok, that’s a total understatement, I hated the stuff), but after marrying a vegetarian I kind of had to get used to it, and have slowly come to absolutely love the stuff. Spinach curry is undoubtedly my absolute favouritest! I even found adedicated spinach recipes website which is my new favourite site now, you should have a look!

  6. It truly is frustrating and difficult, as Ed says, to live among those who are so close minded and unwilling to give thought to a species different from their own. They are ignorant of the fact that their wasteful and harmful lifestyle will not only hurt themselves but eventually destroy the planet. I once worked with a person who said to me, in a condescending tone, that she understood that I was a “vegetarian” (I’m actually vegan) for health reasons but felt that God put animals here for us to use for our purposes. She seemed to have no problem with the horrible torture and cruelty that man has inlicted upon them for ages. Until people wake up and realize and “feel” the pain of these fellow beings nothing will change, I fear.

I live in Destin FL. Any vegetarians live close to me?

I go to school and all my classmates think I’m either stupid, stuck up or weird for being vegan. I’m taking classes to be a pastry chef and would like to own my own vegan bakery one day but I can’t take the criticism from one more person. It’s really upsetting to hear the comments. I’m not the freak they are for eating the flesh of others and enjoying it. For turning the other cheek and not caring about what’s really going on. But anyway I live in CT and I desperately need a veggie friend cause my current friends have started to back away in the past couple of months. I’m too different now. D: Help?

Find an online veggie group to join, a forum or similar, where you can talk to likeminded people. Get on facebook groups and find veggie friends. I live in the middle of no-where with no vegan or veggie friends locally. My veggie partner lives 4 hours away and my kids are the only veggies in school. They are proud of it and glad to be different. I am too but I do have times when I feel lonely and isolated. Be strong and know that you have made a choice which is right for you and right for the animals. When you are older you can move wherever you like. How about dreams of owning a veggie bakery in San Fransisco one day, where there are heaps upon heaps of veggies! Stick with it. Your friends may start to see something in you that they would like to aspire to. You are the only one who can make decisions for yourself but try to do it for you and not for others around you. Hugs x

    Hi there :)

I just wanted to say thank you so much for writing this.
This year I became a vegan and I am proud of my decision. However I have been deeply saddened by most other people in my life (except for my husband who is veggie for the time being). I plan on becoming a mum next year so I am glad I have made this change before entering pregnancy and motherhood.

Recently I bought 10 copies of Earthlings to give to my friends/family just to watch. I barely said anything to them about the issues and just gave it to them as a gift… and no one watched it. I couldnt believe their denial and now I find it difficult to even be around them. To be honest I am actually fighting feelings of anger and being sickened by them which I know isnt healthy and is something I will need to get over. I know that I have to allow others to make their own decisions but I also feel sick knowing what they are participating in and supporting. It’s tough to be a bystander but I guess I have to channel this energy into positive means to hopefully make some difference.

I have come to the conclusion that I truly need vegan friends around me so I dont feel so alone in this.

So thank you for reaching out to me. Even though we will never meet you have made it that little bit easier for me to stay on this path. I have requested you as my facebook friend so I hope you will accept!

    Thank you again.

    Love, peace and kindness,

    Nikki

Hi. I’ve been vegetarian for some time and have in the past few months, since watching Earthlings, have become vegan. Much like Nikki above me, I too feel alone in a world of meat eaters. I live in the deep south and believe me, these people love their meat. I cannot stand the thought of eating flesh anymore and people who continue to eat it are starting to make me feel physically ill. I do not have one single vegan friend on my facebook, but I want to surround myself with other vegans. I watch videos about animal cruelty and share the sites, but none of my friends acknowledge them. I am willing to add other vegans on my facebook if anyone wants other to share stories with. Marcia Brown Benoit on Facebook. I’m only interested in vegan friends. That’s it. Thanks!

Any senior vegans in Lake County Illinois?

  13. Cynthia says:

I started off being a vegetarian on and off for about 2 years and now I am finally trying ease my way to vegan. I know it is going to be a huge transition but I feel so passionate about becoming vegan. I just find it really hard when I am the only person in my family and my group of friends that has ever been vegetarian going into vegan. Now that I am going to be vegan I realized that I would find it more easier to meet people who are on the same boat a me. feel free to add me on facebook Cynthia Ibarra. Hope to meet amazing people:)

  14. May God bless all of us. And awaken compassion in our hearts for those family and friends who don’t feel any for the animals they consume.
