Yes, vegans are often thought of as weird and unnatural, geeky or animal rights extremists. Truth is most of us are a little different from other people simply because we choose a lifestyle that doesn’t involve killing living things to the best of our ability. So in that respect most vegans are not ‘normal’, if ‘normailty’ means eating dead bodies. Most vegans are not odd freaks, do not walk around in bohemian clothing and have braided hair. Some do but there we go, there are different types of people in all walks of life, we should celebrate this diversity but be careful not to make sweeping generalisations.
Maybe it is easier for meat eaters to see vegetarians and vegans as strange instead of thinking that they themselves might be strange. After all, eating corpses does seem a little strange, doesn’t it?
There are many famous vegans and vegetarians who I do not think of as freaks but as I don’t know them personally, they may well be extremely bizarre. These include Sir Paul McCartney, Sting (yes, admittedly a bit odd), Brad Pitt, Bryan Adams, Diane Keaton, Dustin Hoffman, Joaquin Phoenix, Orlando Bloom and not forgetting Johnny Cash and Albert Einstein! Oh, and by the way, just to set the record stright, there is absolutely no evidence that Hitler was a vegetarian (any excuse meat eaters to justify your eating habits!)
So there we have it. And you know what, even if I was a freak, at least I would be a peaceful, non violent freak.
Anything that’s not the “norm” is considered “weird”. Most people are selfish, closed-minded hypocrites, incapable of thinking for themselves, so, if you’re not, then you are weird.
