Do you have any bone china in your cupboards? If so think hard about the words bone china because that is exactly what is it. I was spurred on to write this article after finding a bone china cup in my cupboard, left by my mother who I only just figured, brought her own cup to drink her tea from! On the bottom of the cup are those words ‘bone china’. Bone china is made with cattle bones, or the bone ash to be precise which is added to the porcelain. So it seems death can even be involved when drinking tea.

Bone ash comes from the burning of bones.
Hey, doesn’t chip easily though.
So, maybe you don’t want to drink from bone china? Then before you put your white sugar in your beverage, you might want to opt for brown, seeing as white sugar is processed using bone ash and bone char of dead cattle too.
Animal death is everywhere in our society. We must be the ones to make changes.
Not ALL white sugar is processed with bone char. I understand you are passionate about veganism, as am I but such sweeping claims about all white sugar being non-vegan is a little irresponsible. Research done by the IVU in the UK states the two biggest processors of white sugar in the UK Silver Spoon and Billingtons are animal free, however they cannot guarantee their BROWN sugar is! Also from concerned activism ten years ago I lobbied Tate and Lyle another large producer of UK sugar to let me know if their products were vegan, and they are because they decolour the sugar with limestone. (They also provide sugar to vegan candy manufacturers too)
I am aware that I do not have much data from other countries but I have been assured by a vegan friend that there is white vegan sugar available in the US. However to stop rambling, my point is just because you might of read that one manufacturer uses bone char it isn’t the case for every company.
I do really enjoy your blog and applaud your efforts.
Kind Regards and respects

Thank you for your comment, I am sure many will find it very useful indeed!
As the name states, I’m a vegan in the US. I’m actually deep in the heart of Texas. Here we can be sure that our sugar is vegan because many companies have their product certified kosher. Learning that saved me quite a bit of money!
Good luck with the site.
