Rhona and the Sanctuary

In this economic climate it is vital we do not forget about the animals. As people search for cheaper chunks of flesh (sorry, cuts of meat), consideration for animal welfare seems to go out of the window. The very least you can do is support a farm sanctuary and enable them to carry on their work of rescuing animals who would otherwise be killed. One of the first things people cut back on in times of need is...

Whales

Why aren’t we doing more to stop whaling? Whales are intelligent and peaceful mammals whom we mercilessly allow to be murdered on a regular basis. There is a report about a clash in the news today between Greenpeace and whalers in Japan. It was so far down the news scale I thought I would put it here to get a few more readers. I live in Norway and petitioned when I was a teenager living in th UK about...

Children

I am with my children this morning. I have given them milk and fed them with the nutrients they need to grow and thrive. I have played with them, encouraging learning and allowing them to explore the world around them in a safe environment. Male Chicks

Egg producers suffocate or grind up alive 280 million male chicks a year. As male chicks are worthless (for egg-type hatcheries) they are collected when hatched and are put in plastic bags where they slowly suffocated to dead (as any other way of killing them takes to much work and by this costs to much). These dead bodies are sold to mink farms as feed for the minks. As the public is getting aware of this...

Chimps

As evidence builds that chimps are displaying behaviour patterns and communication skills similar to that of early humans, it seems we may not have so much longer to study these fascinating beings. Populations are declining at an alarming rate due to deforestation, poaching and hunting for food (as stated in the BBC article below from the 17th October.)

Lambs

There are around 20 million breeding sheep in the UK and a further 20 million lambs under a year old. Nearly all of the sheep meat that is consumed is lamb which is both succulent and tasty and has been prized for generations. This is information from the UK Agriculture site. Yet look at the little thing. You have all seen lambs bouncing around a field, full of life. Do you really need to eat him or could you...

Rhona

My newest friend – Rhona I did indeed adopt an animal from Farm Animal Rescue Sanctuary and here she is. I love her already. To adopt an animal yourself or donate to the sanctuary, please visit them at www.farmanimalrescue.org.uk, ABOUT RHONA: Rhona made an impression with the bullocks at our Sanctuary, visiting them and communicating across the fence. It was soon that FAR learnt about her grim fate;...
