Alpro Soya Milk

I have recently become aware that Alpro (and Provomel) have been taken over by a dairy. This sort of conflicts with my idea of not giving money to dairy farms. Does anyone else feel the same? Plus the company doesn’t sound like one I want to support financially. I am now on the hunt for an ethical soya milk so would welcome any suggestions. As I don’t live near a health shop my choices are limited....

Kill the Badgers!…Or do what you can to save them.

Yet again, the UK is going back to murdering Badgers. People fought tooth and nail to stop the Welsh cull and now this (full BBC article below). Please write to the governement, your MP or sign an online petition to say that this is no way to go forward, especially with no hard evidence to prove a link between badgers and Bovine TB. We should let the Badgers live their lives as naturally as they can. Maybe if...

Knowsley Safari Park

Knowsley Safari Park comes under fire today after I saw a message from one of the members of the Manchester Vegan Society about an article from the Sun newspaper. The park regularly cull animals and use this as a training session for staff, meaning that some animals are not killed humanely (not that they should be killed in the first place of course). I would advise you to read the article, if only to have the...

What’s wrong with buying Ribena?

It’s a good question. Well, Ribena belongs to Glaxo Smith Kline, who still test on animals. Hm, surely it’s only the pharmaceutical’s that still test on animals isn’t it. Hmm. No. I am the first to admit being naive. I was prompted this weekend to know more about the companies to avoid. Now, I do actually get a bit annoyed when people challenge me about this. I am a vegan. I don’t...

Supersizers

How can we begin to change as a race when there is so much stupidity inherent in many humans? Yes, I await a backlash for these remarks but I am constantly amazed at the lack of thought going on within many sections of society. This is just a little gem and one of the constant reminders that many humans are just idiots. I watched a chat show last night on which were two up their own arse comedians promoting...

People that don’t like vegans

This is an odd one. I have just been looking around the web as I sometimes do when I am too tired to do any work and I came across someone on a social network saying how much they hated vegans. Apparently we are brainless, smug and need a good steak. I then did some research and found many similar attitudes. At this point I would like to say that a lot of these statements were badly written and childish so perhaps...

Fur coat, no brains.

I stood behind a woman in a store wearing a thick fur coat. Not surprisingly she also barged me out of the way as if I was an inferior being. Fur – guess who it belongs to…that’s right….the animal! Anyone who wears fur when there is a viable alternative is an abomination. Insult who I may, it is downright disgusting. You think so too? The how about ditching your leather shoes, belts,...

Vegan/Vegetarian Childrens Stories

I often find it difficult when looking for books for my children. So many books about animals show them in a farm setting and always show happy animals rather than animals who are possibly heading towards their own deaths far too soon. So this is the first in a series of short posts to offer suggestions of where to find books

Credit Crunch

Are you struggling with food bills during this economic downturn? Maybe you want to take the advice given by the ‘This is money’ website. Instead of buying more expensive cuts of meat you can buy pigs trotters and offal. Awful you think? Well isn’t eating the bottom of a pig or legs of lambs? Maybe it is time you re-thought your whole attitude regarding meat eating. For me, eating  offal is...

Meat and Cancer

Oh really….another article on how to minimise the dangers of eating meat….soak it in booze! Here it goes… Marinating a steak in red wine or beer can cut down the number of cancer-causing agents produced when it is fried or grilled, research suggests. Meat cooked in this way contains relatively high levels of cancer-causing compounds called heterocyclic amines (HAs). However, Portuguese researchers...
