Food Inc

Last night we watched ‘Food Inc’, a documentary film about the food industry. I must say, as a vegan, I think I know a lot about food production, turns out not as much as I should! This film is a must for everyone, it is not a film which asks you to go vegan but rather explains how the big corporations really don’t care about farmers or about you and your families safety. As a vegan I often...

Spot the Difference Game.

Puppy is kicked to death in park. A 10-week-old puppy was kicked to death when it ran up to a group of people in a Cambridgeshire park in what the RSPCA called a “sickening” attack. The Jack Russell was being walked by its owner, a 15-year-old girl, in Priory Park, St Neots, on Monday. The puppy ran over to three people in a wooded area of the park, and one of them kicked it in the head....

The youngest piglets fate.

I just had to share this. The smallest piglets of the litter are often held bt their legs and pounded against  concrete infront of their helpless mothers. At what point do you stop and think ‘Hang On, maybe that’s not acceptable behaviour?’ Don’t be a part of it. But you love a bacon buttie? Grow Up. The original is here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cetfa/3771320870/ PAC’d piglet...

Putting a dog to sleep.

How as a vegan, can I justify taking my dogs to the vets to have them put to sleep? This is so hard to comprehend and something I never fully took into account when I first decided to have dogs. I have 2 labradors. They are sisters, one black, one golden. They lived in England with us before moving out with us to Norway where their life has been exciting, although they have had their noses pushed out a bit since...

Swine Flu

Why are people up in arms that some countries are slaughtering all their pigs? They were going to die anyway, chances are they are better off dead. So Egypt may have slaughtered 300,000 pigs. So what. In the UK alone around 16 million pigs are killed each year for pork roasts and bacon sandwiches. I don’t see many people (apart from some of us vegans and veggies) so outraged about that. Does someone want...

Need a vegan belt?

I was so pleasantly surprised when I went to my post box today. There was a parcel from my mother and in it were 2 vegan belts from Ethical Wares. When she was here last, she found one of her belts in my drawers and re-claimed it! She must have known I am always short of belts because now two weeks later, these belts arrived. They are so sweet! I looked at the site and Ethical Wares has lots of accessories for...

Dairy Cows and Veal Calves

Most times when I get into a debate about vegetarianism and veganism I find myself having to highlight what happens to dairy cows. Now most vegetarians I speak to immediately understand why I no longer drink milk or eat cheese for example. It sounds strange but most vegetarians do not realise that by consuming dairy they are still part of a process which causes animals distress, pain and death. I am still learning...

Let’s be friends

I just have to share this site with you. It needs little explanation! If only we could exist in peace, all animals together, humans included. These pictures are delightful and really funny. The only things it’s missing is a human and a cow. This is a great site to visit during your tea break or if you just need some inspiration about life in general. I love it. And by the way, my favourite is the monkey...

Rhona and the Sanctuary

In this economic climate it is vital we do not forget about the animals. As people search for cheaper chunks of flesh (sorry, cuts of meat), consideration for animal welfare seems to go out of the window. The very least you can do is support a farm sanctuary and enable them to carry on their work of rescuing animals who would otherwise be killed. One of the first things people cut back on in times of need is...
