Don’t let them lift the whaling ban - act quickly.

Don’t allow those ignorant selfish bastards who make our decisions lift the ban on whaling. Do something NOW. There are only 2 days left to knock some sense into these people. Visit the below site and add your voice. Spread the word on twitter, facebook, on your blog, comment on the news sites, demonstrate. In other words, make a BIG DEAL of this. It is unacceptable, sickening and downright immoral. DO...

What I don’t know

It has recently occurred to me that I have been living safe as a vegan. When I first became a vegan I was talking about animal rights all the time. I seem to have settled into a lifestyle where I now live quietly with my views. I have not posted often enough and not made a fuss about the things I should have been. In Wales there is a huge badger cull going on, small independent companies everywhere that used...

My local Chinese!

Down the bottom of my road is a wonderful, if not a little strange, Chinese take away. Run by quite an eccentric lady who always gives a free gift, be in a bunch of grapes or a can of beer, it is a joy. I must admit I have partaken of the goodies on offer there about 4 times in the last month but it keeps me going back. It is called Sunlan and if you are ever in Whaley Bridge, Derbyshire, you must give it a...

The UK

Well it’s over a month since I said goodbye to Norway and returned to the place I used to call home, the UK. Life here seems quite unchanged. Walking into a store to be able to buy vegan options off the shelf felt a world away from what I had left. Each day consisting of planning menus from scratch and making sure I had the ingredients I needed from stores often an hours drive away. I must say the first few...

Leaving Norway

So tomorrow the children and I pack up and hope our flight to London goes without a hitch. I have seen the chaos the snow in the UK has caused and hope things have calmed down a bit. At least our pilot will be used to landing in snow and ice! I haven’t posted for a while as busy running around getting organised and also we were all hit with H1N1 which knocked us out for around 3 weeks! I am looking forward...

We’re playing double standards again!

Yesterday I read the below article from the Telegraph with interest. I would have posted it up straight away had I not been in bed with the flu. However, upon dragging myself up today I thought  the first thing I wanted to do was highlight the hypocrisy yet again in our society.  Please read this article (and take note if it makes you angry or upset) and I will continue… Up to a million Hindus gathered...

Pumpkin Soup

I have to admit to making the nicest pumpkin soup I have ever had yesterday so I thought I’d share the recipe which as always I just made up! Lightly fry an onion in olive oil. Add about 4 cups of scooped out pumpkin. Add 3 chopped carrots. Add a pint veg stock, maybe a bit more if you need more liquid as cooking. Add some coriander, black pepper and a pinch of salt. Half a cup of red lentils. If able,...

Spot the Difference Game.

Puppy is kicked to death in park. A 10-week-old puppy was kicked to death when it ran up to a group of people in a Cambridgeshire park in what the RSPCA called a “sickening” attack. The Jack Russell was being walked by its owner, a 15-year-old girl, in Priory Park, St Neots, on Monday. The puppy ran over to three people in a wooded area of the park, and one of them kicked it in the head....

Vegan in Amsterdam!

Well, Amsterdam certainly is a city of everything! I was told that you could find anything for any taste. There are museums, boat trips, bars, coffee shops where you can smoke cannabis but not cigarettes, theatres, boutique shops, funfairs and then when you want to go for a meal you hunt like hell to try and find a restaurant that serves vegan food. Actually finding one that serves vegetarian food is quite a...

Addicted to meat

Is meat eating an addiction? Is smuggling a tin of meat into a vegetarians house to eat when the hosts go out the same as sneaking a quick cigarette when you think no-one will catch you? I think it’s not far off. When friends and family are with me I often get the feeling that the minute they leave me they eat the first flesh they can lay their hands on. Addiction is often something we refuse to believe...
